Air Strikes, the Military Vote, and TNSTAAFL!

First off near and dear to my heart is the smear against the US military for an airstrike in Helmand Province in Afghanistan which the media claims killed civilians. The Story I found on Black Five is interesting... It seems that while the airstrike was called in, there was some enemy activity (maybe why the airstrike was called in...) and more enemy activity afterward. Something along the lines of rocket strikes against civilian homes at the same time as the airstrike and shortly thereafter... Interesting, however my brothers in arms are going through hell right now with an investigation after this due to popular opinion. Go figure, big bad US dropping bombs on innocent children. Never mind that the GBU-12 500lb Laser Guided Bomb is one of the finest urban warfare weapons to ever exist due to a delayed fusing allowing it to destroy one building with little damage to others around it... Mean while the Taliban and Al Queda forces use Katusha rockets (about 200mm projectiles) resting on rocks that only go the general direction fired and line up about 15 or so with washing machine timers, useless beyond disruption value aka terror.

Next, another interesting finding from the Military Times!

"I thought it was funny that in those (CNN) "polls" I didnt see the percentage of active duty represented in this election.........Now I know why.

A poll by the Military Times newspaper group suggests that there is overwhelming support for John McCain among U.S. troops in every branch of the armed forces by a nearly 3-1 margin.

The Military Times, which publishes the Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times, polled 80,000 subscribers from Sept 22 to Sept. 29. The non-scientific survey gathered 4,300 respondents -- all of them registered and eligible to vote.
A racial divide was immediately evident among the respondents. Nearly eight in 10 black servicemembers chose Obama, while McCain captured 76 percent of white voters and 63 percent of Hispanic voters.

Numbers among men and women respondents were also visibly different. Men overwhelmingly said they would vote for McCain, 70 percent to 22 percent. But among women the margin was much closer: 53 percent support McCain, while 36 percent support Obama.
U.S. troops also said in the poll that they prefer McCain to handle the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- 74 percent said McCain would perform better, while just 19 percent said Obama would.
Four years ago the Iraq War was the single most important issue on which the military voted. But the war now ranks third in importance to these voters. The most important issue among the respondents was character (42 percent), followed by the economy (25 percent) and the Iraq War (16 percent).
There was a racial divide on these issues, as well. Black servicemembers said the economy was the No. 1 issue that affected their vote, and white troops said character was paramount.
The Military Times offered certain caveats for its poll, which was open only to its 80,000 subscribers. Responses were entirely voluntary and were not focused on a representative sample of the public, as scientific polls are. The troops polled were also somewhat older than average enlisted servicemembers and included more officers than is representative of the military as a whole.
Yet judging by the numbers, it appears that the Democratic party has not made many inroads into the traditionally Republican military. (www.onemarinesview.com) Maj Pain

Nothing new in that story at all really. It follows what I saw in 2004 with President Bush being favored over Senator Kerry by about 75% for Bush and only 25% for Kerry. This also follows that survey Michael Dukes has quoted from 29 Palms Training base done by a Marine Officer that asked if his fellow Marines would follow UN Orders to impose UN rules upon the United States. There again, the only ones who would do it were in the 25% category and the ones who said "HELL No!" were in the 75% category... Liberalism isn't going to take over our military anytime soon despite very high profile cases like Gen. Barry McCaffery and recently Gen. Colin Powell's defection to Senator Obama.

TNSTAAFL- There's No Such Thing As A Free Lunch! In other words, folks need to get off they're buts and pull they're own weight around and start actually paying into taxes before whining about not having something that they're neighbor has! Its understandable that there are some who cannot work or take care of themselves, Christ told us to take care of them! Understood! Its something along the lines of charity. The only reason the mentally ill suffer on the street is not that the Government has failed, its because "We the People" have failed to have a conscience and offer charity to those in need. Which leads mis-guided activists to blame the Government for this failure. Go figure, remove Religion from schools, and you remove the "Golden Rule" and the best teaching of charity there is. Its been proven time and time again, philanthropy will never replace religious charity, and neither can any government welfare.

I'm currently reading and finally finishing a great book by one of the greatest science fiction authors of all time. No, its not the Fascist advocate H.G. Wells... Its the Libertarian Robert A. Heinlein! The book is "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress". Its fantastic! Of course, maybe I just enjoy it more now that I'm in the unforgiving environment that is Alaska where the ill-prepared will suffer the most and have many times (and still do) die due to the elements. Any colonization of space will more than likely follow this principle. TNSTAAFL! Everyone needs to be there for a purpose, or the society won't accept them. Either the society or the environment will dispose of said individual in a rather unforgiving manner. For example, in the book, newbies who refuse to pay attention suck vacuum. Either they piss off someone locally, or they don't put on a pressure suit right and go outside... Kind of like someone attempting to rob you here when you are carrying your pistol, or not having a coat on along the Parks Highway during early October in the middle of the night and having a tire blow-out during a snow storm with an on coming 18 wheeler that is sliding down the hill...

However, I've noticed something here. We in Alaska are charitable by nature. When we see that poor sucker on the side of the road, 9 times out of 10, we or someone else, or five other people who are passing along the road will reach out and assist or stop and see if said sucker needs help. So, what do we need handouts for from the government when we have each other to help out? Oh wait, if someone promises us money, we'll just put them into power to get our cut... Or at least some will. We've been duped, and someone has offered a free lunch to too many people for far too long.

Personally, I don't want to see disaster. However, the rough times ahead aren't all doom and gloom. I think we'll suddenly re-discover ourselves here and find out just how independent we really are. I think that's what has scared the pants off of most of the US Left Coast, North East, and big cities. Middle America understands TNSTAAFL and they like our Governor who espouses TNSTAAFL. Those living in crystal palaces, University castles, and along the coasts are scared shitless of the concept that they might be required to provide they're own lunch. They aren't ready for independence, they have moved toward dependence! They just aren't ready for what our Governor will bring to the table in DC! No wonder they panic, no wonder they can't fathom "Joe the Plumber".
